Welcome to Week Four of the college football season. This week, my College Football picks against the spread  feature an SEC clash and a Big 12 match up in Morgantown. A 1-4 week in week three was not what I was looking for to say the least however I did hit my Upset Alert pick. Hitting my upset alert picks two of the first three weeks helps offset the less than ideal record for the season. A good Week Four will have me to five hundred or better.

Season Record 6-9

Upset Alert 2-1

LSU Tigers -7.5 vs Mississippi State Bulldogs

This will be a huge game for Dax Prescott and company as they head into the Baton Rouge. The Bulldogs were a sleeper team for many college football analysts and this game will be the first true test as they head into SEC play. When Garth Brooks’ Callin’ Baton Rouge starts playing and the 102,000 Tiger faithful are singing at the top of their lungs it can be an intimidating atmosphere. Freshman Leonard Fourenette will need to be ready to play, but I expect him and his team to put on a show. LSU will win this game and show their a real contender for the SEC crown.

Maryland Terrapins +1 at Syracuse Orange

CJ Brown and his Terrapin teammates are better team that some give them credit for. They nearly pulled out a W against the West Virginia Mountaineers a week ago. This week Maryland travels to Syracuse to take on a Orange team that is undefeated but has yet to play a quality opponent. I expect Maryland to go into the Carrier Dome and win this game. They are better on both sides of the ball and will win this game outright.

Virginia Cavaliers +14 at BYU Cougars

Taysom Hill and company have been impressive thus far. Hill is a dynamic runner that can also make plays with his arm. However I think the Cavaliers are in a good spot in this match up. Their defense is very strong especially against the run. Virginia pulled out an impressive win a week ago against the Louisville Cardinal. While they are on the road for this match up, I expect Virginia to keep this game close and cover the spread.

Massachusetts Minutemen +27 at Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State Christian Hackenberg is a highly touted NFL draft prospect and for good reason. He definitely looks the part. His on the field play has been hit and miss but the throws he does make reminds you why he is highly touted. That said, Penn State barely escaped their game against Rutgers with a 3 point win. Rutgers quarterback Gary Nova was awful including throwing four interceptions. While UMass is 0-3, I expect them to be able to run the ball and keep this game close enough to cover the 27 point spread.

West Virginia Mountaineers +7.5 vs Oklahoma Sooners

This will probably be one of, if not my boldest calls of the year. The Oklahoma Sooners are looking like the National Title frontrunners they entered the season as. The offense lead by quarterback Trevor Knight has looked strong and their defense is loaded with talent. That said the West Virginia Mountaineers have been a much better team than many thought they’d be. Clint Trickett has shown marked improvement. Week one against Alabama was the first sign of things to come. They were able to play well and keep the game close. This game being in Morgantown will also help the Mountaineers. For those who are less bold take the points but the +250 is too tempting to not at least dabble in for entertaiment purposes only of course.
