Jordy Nelson – The Green Bay Packers and wide receiver Jordy Nelson have agreed to a contract extension worth $39 million dollars over four-years. This move ensures Nelson will be catching passes from quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the foreseeable future.

Nelson is often overlooked as an elite fantasy option. He is one of four pass catchers with 3000 or more receiving yards and 30 plus touchdowns over the last three season. Last season Nelson was able to put up 1,300 yards and 8 touchdowns despite having seven weeks of Matt Flynn, Seneca Wallace and Scott Tolzien throwing to him. Rodgers return in week 17, saw Nelson explode for 161 yards on 10 catches. Nelson is just outside the top five at receiver for me, ahead of sexier names like Julio Jones, Alshon Jeffery and teammate Randall Cobb.

Jamaal Charles – Jamaal Charles has agreed to a two-year, 18.1 million dollar contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs. This extension will lock him up through the 2017 season. This will keep him firmly planted as my number one player for 2014. Fantasy owners can draft with confidence when it comes to Charles. He will be an elite player and should finish among not only running backs but all players in fantasy football.

Kendall Hunter – 49ers running back Kendall Hunter has torn his ACL. This injury will sideline him for the entire season. While Hunter is likely not fantasy relevant in your league, his injury gives a more clear picture for the backfield in San Francisco. Rookie Carlos Hyde is generating fantasy buzz and would likely be the handcuff if something happened to starter Frank Gore. Second year back Marcus Lattimore is currently on the PUP, although the 49ers and coach Jim Harbaugh expect Lattimore to be ready for the start of the season. Lattimore would likely be a change of pace back and wouldn’t be the workhorse back.

Roddy White – The Atlanta Falcons and Roddy White have agreed to a four-year deal. The deal will be worth $30 million dollars and will add three years to his current contract. A healthy Roddy White combined with Julio Jones and Matt Ryan should provide a dynamic, fantasy relevant offense once again.

Ray Rice – Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice will miss the first two games of the 2014 season. He should go later in drafts as a result of this news and will provide fantasy owners with value this season. Expect a bounce back from Rice once he returns from suspension. In the short term draft Bernard Pierce as well. He will get all the carries and will produce in offensive coordinator Gary Kubiaks system.

Cecil Shorts – Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts is expected to miss a month with a strained right hamstring. This injury comes after Shorts missed a majority of the Jaguars OTA’s. Shorts will be dropping in my rankings. Soft tissue injuries are more likely to reoccur and Shorts continues to battle injuries. Monitor the news out of Jaguars camp for updates on Shorts. If he is a full go in practice and plays in preseason games owners should have little to worry about. Make sure you have depth at receiver is Shorts ends up missing time.
