The NFL draft is over and we now know where all the rookies are heading, some may have you scratching your head, but one that jumped out to me as a slam dunk winner was Eric Ebron going to the Detroit Lions with the overall tenth pick.  The only thing to wonder about is why the Lions resigned Pettigrew for $16 million over 4 years for continued lackluster production.  Ebron, who is 6’4″ and 250 pounds, will be the starter when the 2014 season starts for the Lions.  This may be the last piece of the offensive puzzle for the Lions after acquiring Golden Tate in free agency and re-signing Joique Bell for three years.

Eric Ebron broke the single season receiving record for ACC tight ends in 2013, breaking Vernon Davis’ record, collecting 62 receptions, 973 yards, and three touchdowns.  He runs a 4.60 forty and had a 10’0″ broad jump at the combine. Add in the fact that he has 10″ hands and 331/4″ arms, and this is what makes Eric a special athlete.  He could certainly break in to the top 15 tight ends in fantasy this season and soon reach the top 10 in dynasty rankings very soon.

The Lions had already boasted one of the most prolific passing attacks.  Reggie Bush and Joique Bell both catch the ball well, and Calvin Johnson stretches  the field like few wide receivers can.  Golden Tate finally gives Detroit the perfect complement to Calvin, leaving the middle of the field for Ebron to do his damage.   A 70 catch, 1000 yard, 8 touchdown season is very possible his first year in Detroit.  Matt Stafford could be a 5500 yard passer in this offense, and there will be plenty of yards to spread around.

Unless your dynasty team already boasts a top ten dynasty tight end, I wouldn’t hesitate to select Ebron with a mid to late first round pick.  He is in the best situation of any tight end selected.  He is on a pass first team with a young dynamic quarterback, and lots of other talent around him to allow him an enormous amount of room to operate.  Dynasty rookie drafts are coming soon and you don’t want to miss out on this opportunity.
