2014 NFL Draft Quick Peeks: Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are next up for a quick peek at their 2014 NFL Draft options. After another disappointing season which saw them at home during the playoffs, the biggest need might be for a new decision maker in the organization. Jerry Jones may not be willing to do that, though, so they’ll need to hit on the right picks.

Who Should They Pick?: The Cowboys need defensive linemen. Kony Ealy is a big, versatile pass rusher who can play all over the line and contribute in a number of ways.  He could be a true three-down lineman, which makes him attractive to a lot of teams.

Who Will They Pick?: The defensive line is almost certainly going to be addressed with this early pick, and Ra’Shede Hageman makes sense. They lost Jason Hatcher and Hageman gives them a big, dynamic playmaker inside. He can generate a pass rush and create havoc up the middle.

Backup Plan: Timmy Jernigan could also be an option along the defensive line. He is also terrific at working through blockers, and using his hands to create leverage. If he can get better at getting off at the snap, he’ll be a terror.

Darkhorse: The Cowboys didn’t get a lot from their safeties in 2013. Jimmy Ward is a fit, but more importantly, he’s a great player who can improve any team. He always seems to be in the right place, and knows how to get his hands on the ball.

Trade?: A trade is up is possible if they fall in love with a player like Aaron Donald, but it’s not likely. A trade back is possible, but with value there at the positions they need, they most likely stay put.
