Andrew McCutchen, OF Pittsburgh Pirates: Andrew McCutchen, the 2013 NL MVP and a consensus top 5 pick in 2014 fantasy baseball drafts, was removed from Friday night’s game in the 8th inning due to ankle discomfort. This was after an at-bat in the bottom of the 8th where “Cutch” likely tweaked something coming out of the box. After the game, he was seen walking through the clubhouse without any noticeable limp, which is a very good sign. The X-rays that were taken on his ankle were not released as of Saturday morning, but the Pirates will likely let out more information as the day goes on. For now, it doesn’t seem like the injury is too serious, but we’ll have to wait for an official statement sometime today.

**1PM PST Update: McCutchen is IN the lineup batting third against the Brewers. Fantasy owners and Pirate fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the tweaked ankle must not have been a big deal.**

Mat Latos, SP Cincinnati Reds: Matt Latos is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, which comes just three days after a rehab start was skipped on Tuesday due to inflammation in right elbow. Latos had originally planned to join the Reds in the middle of April as he recovered from early-spring knee surgery, but that seems to be out of reach. As it is still early in the season, the Reds are going to play it safe with their hard-throwing righty, and reschedule a rehab start sometime in the next couple of days. With the news of this elbow inflammation, Latos likely won’t rejoin the rotation until the end of April or early May.

Joel Hanrahan, RP Free Agent: Joel Hanrahan is now 11 months out from Tommy John and flexor tendon surgeries. The former Pittsburg Pirate and Boston Red Sox had hoped to have been signed by now, but there is still some concern as to how he would be able to perform after two major surgeries. Reportedly, he has been clocked in the 90-92 MPH range, down from a 96.6 MPH average in 2013. The 32-year old pitched just 7.1 innings for the Red Sox before needing surgery. There’s a long list of potential suitors for Hanrahan’s services, but it will likely take some injuries and/or many poor performances before he’s relevant in fantasy baseball, much less a closer.

He’s missed a few more games than we expected him to, but he plans to return to the lineup Saturday…Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood will return to the Rockies rotation Sunday as they visit San Francisco…Coco Crisp pinch hit for the Athletics last night. A return to the lineup is the next step…A.J. Burnett was taken out of the fifth inning in Friday’s game against the Marlins due to an undisclosed injury…Josh Hamilton had surgery on his torn UCL Friday, and the doctors said it was a successful operation…Wilin Rosario was scratched from Friday’s game due to a left wrist strain. He’ll likely miss Saturday’s game as well, and will look to return either Sunday or Monday…Troy Tulowitzki wasn’t in the lineup Friday (quad) but was available to pinch hit in the 9th.
