Daily Fantasy Basketball Notes 3/18

Kristjan Kangur, Dion Waiters

Crazy things happen all the time to me. I said that Thomas Robinson is the guy to play last Friday and he finished the game with 2 points and only 7 minutes on the court. Then, I mentioned Steph Curry being on a minutes cap, so he isn’t worth the money. He then proceeds to drop 50 fantasy points and plays over 30 minutes for the first time since his injury. Hell, even my Caesar dressing in my fridge expired on Saturday. That’s March 15th for all you Shakespeare fans. It was a weird weekend.

Luckily, tonight has five games I can lose myself in and not have to worry about that nonsense. The past is the past, only thing to do is move on and focus on tonight. All but one game is over 200 points for the over/under, and the one that isn’t (Heat/Bucks) will probably end up over as well. So don’t sweat it, still plenty of guys out there to win tonight. As always, my prices are based off of DraftKings. Good luck and allons-y with my picks:

Start ‘Em

Nicolas Batum ($7,700)vs the Bucks – Nobody has benefitted more form the absence of LMA than Batum. Honestly, I thought that it would become the Damian Lillard show, but after back-to-back 50+ point fantasy nights, clearly the Frenchman is the guy to play. Some people may be worried about a blowout, but Portland’s defense isn’t as good, nor is the Bucks defense as bad as people may believe. I wouldn’t blame anyone for starting Lillard, but Batum has the hot hand and is my guy for tonight.

Dion Waiters ($5,300) vs the Heat – He may not be the sexy pick, but if there is one thing we know about Waiters, it’s that he can shoot the ball. Miami does have a solid defense against the backcourt, but where else will the scoring come from Cleveland’s guards? With Kryie being out at least the next two weeks, I just don’t have much faith in Jarett Jack. Waiters will be the guy and has the most upside of anybody tonight to really outplay his value.

DeMarcus Cousins ($9,400) vs the Wizards – I know that Washington has been a solid defensive squad lately in the frontcourt, but it’s hard for me to go against Boogie tonight. Yes, 3 out of his last 4 games have been 45+ fantasy points, but that’s not even why I think he is the play. IT2 will be going against John Wall, and will be giving up about 7 inches in height. That will make it hard for IT2 to get a shot up in the lane, so DMC will gain the most from his big body being in the paint. Also, the Wiz are in the bottom half in the league in rebounds, so I expect Boogie to have a big night on the boards as well.

Sit ‘Em

Jameer Nelson ($6,000) vs the Warriors – Jameer is coming off his last three games scoring at least 13 points and having 7 assists. He really has been playing well, and I think that will continue for the rest of the season. Yet, tonight I have to think otherwise against this Warriors team. They’re a top ten defense against the point, and Nelson doesn’t have the legs to keep up with Curry. He’s also giving up about 3 inches in height, so what little defense he could play isn’t going to be much of a factor either. I would much rather start Oladipo, who has a better matchup and is a cheaper price.

Anyone from Atlanta vs the Raptors – Yes, I am including Paul Millsap in this as well. $8,600 is a lot to spend on a guy who is the best player on a team. Not to mention, he is going up against a really good defensive team. Seriously, Toronto has to be one of the top defenses in the league that nobody is talking about. In fact, they rank in the top ten in every position defensively except for point guard over the past two weeks. Unless you want to take a flyer on a guy like Pero Antic who might outplay his value, I’m staying away from the Hawks tonight.
