Daily Fantasy Basketball Notes 3/10

We begin another week of DFS basketball this Monday night with 7 games on the NBA schedule. The highest total on the board tonight (218) is from LA where the Clippers host the Suns. The Clips are a 10 point favorite there. Besides the large spread indicating a possible blowout , another problem has actually been a down month for the Clips “big fantasy 3″ of CP3, Blake and DeAndre. All are below 33 DS points per game for March and none are meeting value, making it kind of tough to trust which one to put in your lineup. In fact, the leading fantasy producer for LAC so far in March has been Matt Barnes at 33 DS ppg. Add in Jamal Crawford returning last game and even with the high total, I can’t start with confidence CP3 or Blake (who are both around 19,000 tonight).

** Edit- Crawford is out tonight, still don’t love any of the big 3 Clips, give a bump though to Darren Collison ($11,459)

Next on the O/U board are those lovable 76ers, as they invade NY to face a suddenly hot Knicks squad.  The number here is 215, with the Knicks being a 15 point favorite.  Even if the Knicks blow Philly out, I could see some fantasy damage being done in 3 quarters of work by Carmelo Anthony.  One note here is that Knicks center Tyson Chandler ($14,786) is questionable for tonight due to a personal matter.  Chandler looked to be a solid play, averaging 12.5 points and 15 rebounds in five March games.  Stay tuned for furthur word.  Edit ***  Chandler is OUT tonight…more to be discussed later on in column

On to some player selections:

HIGH STAKES:

Carmelo Anthony, NYK ($19,911)- Yes, it is possible ‘Melo may not see many 4th quarter minutes, but 30+ points and 7-10 boards are certainly a possibility tonight in even three quarters of work.  And if Philly somehow keeps it close, then it can be a huge night.  He is coming off three straight 40+ DS point games, and tries to keep the Knicks chugging towards that 8th seed in the East.  Edit:  With Chandler out, Anthony should see an increase in boards,  increasing his value greater.

Al Jefferson, CHA ($18,624)- Big Al has been a beast ever since the calendar flipped to 2014.  It seems the only time to stay clear of him is when Charlotte takes on Memphis, where Al Jeff has just an 11.25 and 21.75 game in his last two.  Luckily tonight is not Memphis.  In fact, it’s pretty much the opposite as the Bobcats take on Denver, who is 2nd to the bottom in allowing fantasy points to centers the last two weeks.  Did you see what Anthony Davis did to Denver last night ( 32 pts, 17 reb, 6 blks if you have a poor memory).  He was the first guy I plugged into the first draft of all my lineups tonight.

Nikola Vucevic, ORL ($17,067)- Vucevic is almost a double double guarantee.  He has six straight of them, and has posted a dbl-dbl in 13 of 16 games since the beginning of February.  Without Larry Sanders, the Bucks don’t have much of in inside presence to counter Vuc.  Without foul trouble, a 18 point 16 rebound type of line is in the cards tonight

MIDDLE OF THE ROAD:

Kemba Walker, CHA ($12,847)- Walker is statistically just a better player at home, where he averages 19.3 points, 6.6 assists and 4.6 boards per game against 16.3 / 4.8 /4.1 away from TWC Arena.  As with teammate Al Jefferson, Walker gets a good match up with Denver tonight, a bottom 5 team vs. point guards the last 15 days.  Looks like I’m going to have some Bobcat stacking going on this evening.

Amare Stoudemire, NYK ($10,987)- I was planning on using Amare before the Tyson Chandler news hit, now he is going to be used in many a lineup tonight.  He’s averaging 16 points and 6.5 boards in March and even threw in 3 blocks in his last game.  With Chandler out, could Amare be staring at back to back double double’s ??  Just need to hope there isn’t a blowout, cause you have to figure the Knicks will rest Stoudemire if the game gets too out of control.

Brandon Knight, MIL ($12,961)- Knight is basically the only Buck you can trust to get you 30+ minutes.  He’s at close to 20 PPG and 5.5 assists over his last ten games.  A supposedly competitive, yet ugly game is on the schedule tonight with Orlando.  Should give Knight more court time against a so so defender in Jameer Nelson.

CHEAPSKATES:

Raymond Felton, NYK ($9,218)- Yes, I almost just threw up on my keyboard putting Felton in a recommended section of an article.  Bottom line is a starting PG vs. Philadelphia at less than 10% of your cap makes you at least have to consider Felton, no matter how much you loathe him.

Pero Antic, ATL ($7,270)- Everyone’s favorite Macedonian, Antic draws the start for Atlanta tonight.  He logged 30 minutes in Atlanta’s last game on Saturday and responded with 16 points and 6 rebounds.  He has the unique ability for a big man to drain the 3-ball as well (had 3 of them Saturday at the Clippers).

Marcus Thornton, BKN ($6,282)- Strictly a GPP play as Thornton has hit over 20 points in three of the Nets five games in March.  Of course in the other two contests, he has 4 and 3 point games.  The price is right to take a shot possibly for one of the 20+ point games

Chris Douglas-Roberts, CHA ($8,220)- Gerald Henderson is out once again for the Bobcats meaning another start for CDR.  He has four straight games of double digit scoring and not to be a dead horse, but it’s a nice match up tonight for Charlotte.

That’s all for now.  Any questions or comments, please hit me up on twitter @bsteinhause.  And don’t forget the rest of the @fakeroundball crew:  @RSandersRX, @SaidHeHadAStory and @PatsFever24

Good luck tonight, let’s start the week off right !!
