AFC South Week 4 Preview

Well week 4 is upon us and the AFC South has a new toy in Trent Richardson. Both him and MJD have good match ups facing each other, while Houston gets the mighty Seahawks and Tennessee gets the surprising (but defensively talented) Jets. Let’s get into it.

Indianapolis at Jacksonville

Start ALL the Colts! Luck had a solid game against a much better 49ers defense last week. If he can put up a decent game against them he will most definitely have a good game against this porous Jaguars defense. I like him a lot this week but I’m also expecting the Colts to run a lot this game.

So Bradshaw isn’t going away…….but who cares! Both him and Richardson I think can co-exist in this offense – both should get a decent amount of carries as the Colts want to run the ball and run it often. I think Trent Richardson has a better week than last week against an easier defense and having had another week to learn the offense. I can see both of these guys getting TDs and being at least RB2s.

With Luck having an average game passing last week, Wayne, Hilton and Heyward-Bey suffered. I expect them to bounce back big time this week against this awful Jags defense. They are giving up the most yards per game on the ground this season, so I chalk up their decent play against the pass to that. Luck is going to throw more than he has and these guys should all benefit. Fleener could be another guy to look at if you need a TE this week, but I’m still waiting on him.

The Jaguars……Maurice Jones-Drew and Cecil Shorts is about all that you can start here. Blackmon still isn’t back from suspension until next week. MJD didn’t have a great game but got a lucky short TD against the Seahawks. I like him a bit this week to have a good bounce back against the Colts D. Shorts had a lot of garbage time points last week vs Seattle, which could be the case again. He looks like he only guy catching passes here, so start him this week for sure.

Seattle at Houston

I don’t know that I’m confident starting anyone for Houston this week against that nasty Seattle defense. They’ve kept Kaepernick and Newton in check, so that isn’t good news for Shaub. Sit him unless he’s your only option. I don’t think this game gets out of hand for Seattle so I don’t see a lot of garbage time points to be had like there was for MJD and Cecil Shorts last week.

Andre is injured and even if he is playing, Richard Sherman should be covering him. Sherman is like the new Revis Island (if not even better) so I don’t like any receiver against him (or this secondary for that matter). That being said, if Andre is playing, you’re likely starting him since bye weeks have started and you probably don’t have a better option. I don’t feel confident starting Hopkins or Daniels this week, as Seattle has the biggest and arguably the most talented defensive backs in the league. They’ve given up a league low 146 passing yards per game, with only 1 TD given up through the air and tied for 3rd with 5 INTs already so far in 3 games.

So Seattle can’t be good against the pass AND the run right? WRONG! They have given up 95 yards per game through the first three weeks and if Duane Brown is out again for the Texans, I don’t like Foster or Tate this week. They managed to put up 90 yards combined against a better run defense, but with the apparent time split, its tough to rely on either guy. If I have Foster I’m playing him and hoping for an MJD-esque short TD this week.

Jets at Titans

The Jets currently rank 6th against the run in terms of yards and have only given up 1 rushing TD this year; not exactly great news for CJ2K owners. He has been far from impressive so far this year, though he has almost 90 yards a game, he has been invisible in the passing game and has yet to find the end zone. If I have a better option this week, I’m taking him over CJ2K this week. I keep saying I’m out on guys and then they make me look silly, so hopefully that’s the case with CJ this week.

Jake Locker had a decent week last week, but I’m still not buying him. Don’t bother.

Britt was invisible again – I’m totally out on him now. Drop him and grab someone else. Washington looked solid again this week with a big statline and Kendall Wright had a decent week. In a smaller league or 2 WR league I don’t like these guys, especially since the Jets are 7th in the league against the pass. Washington, Wright and Walker are guys I’m only starting in a deeper league or if I’m really desperate because I don’t expect much from them this week.
